Yoga in the Workplace
Depending on the sector you belong to, time at work can be full of time constraints, big expectations and a pressure to be professional all the time. This type of environment doesn't let people be human, it doesn't provide space for them to catch their breath, and because of that, performance can be compromised.
Prior to teaching Yoga, I had many years experience in a competitive career that drained me rather than fulfilled me. With small changes to management style, work life boundaries and being attentive to my mental wellbeing, it could have been so different.
Here's how introducing yoga into your workplace can make a difference:
looking after the body
It's an obvious one, but we feel better when we move. Sitting at a desk all day without breaks or proper movement can be detrimental to focus & productivity. Yoga moves every joint in every direction, the perfect reset from an uncomfortable posture.
Looking after the mind
Yoga supports brain health, boosting cognitive function and critical thinking. We can build better awareness and coordination even with the simplest of poses. Regular practices helps us to respond thoughtfully to situations rather than react instinctively.
learning wellbeing techniques
There are many different mindfulness techniques to reduce stress and overwhelm. Yoga can teach us to sit in discomfort and be okay with it. This training translates to situations off the mat too.
supporting the whole person
We know that employees rarely leave their personal lives at the door. Regular yoga classes can help them feel supported as a person in addition to the support you provide them in their job role.
